EARTH

L. Annette Short of Laughing Heart Creations is the originator of this doll (http://www.jhmand.com/laughingheartcreations).
Such a beautiful doll this earth doll is, her face thoughtful and gentle and her colors soothing. I made her a skirt from some lovely paper I had, hand tinting it with Dy-Na-Flo paints, and sprinkling it with powered mica. The bottons are turquoise and the bottom fringe is made of multi-colored skeleton leaves.
"A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." I couldn't help but put a little bird in the palm of her hand, and filled her treasure pouch with some bark, and shells, and rocks and a cool pencil that looked like a branch.

For the journal, I continued with the same elements I'd used for the doll, including some of the dyed paper on one of the layouts. I added my hand-drawn interpretation of Gaia. I also composed a poem, printed it out onto self-adhesive film, and adhered it over the top of the collaged underpage.
Of all of the dolls, I think that the earth doll is the one I resonated with the deepest. I have great concerns over this world of ours, and this doll and journal embodied her essence.
